We’ve been talking about the concept that in order to do emotional work, it’s important to care for the body – including getting enough sleep and drinking enough water.
There are a lot of self-care practices you can use to improve and maintain your health and wellness, but we all need expert help as well.
For example, it’s important to see your primary care doctor regularly for physical exams and lab tests. As Dr. Cathy Handy of Johns Hopkins Hospital writes for U.S. News Health, there is no set timeline for how often every person needs to see the doctor. She offers five things to consider when making your own decision.
Besides your family doctor, there are other specialists you’ll want to make regular appointments with, such as a dentist, dietician, gynecologist, optometrist, allergist, dermatologist, chiropractor, massage therapist, or others depending on your own needs.
Visiting these experts is not enough, and won’t help if you don’t take their advice. While it’s okay to disagree with your doctor or their treatment plan, try to be honest with yourself about why you might feel resistant to what they suggest.
